Chronological Thematic Bible Reading - Noah and the Flood

Image
"For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.  For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man."  Matthew 24:37-39 I tried to write on Cain, Able and Seth, but I have more questions than I do answers.  I also ended up doing a study on the biblical theological idea of "carpology," the study of seeds.  Genesis (and the whole Bible) is full of references of seeds.  Very interesting study.  A main thing I gathered regarding Cain is that he was a "bad seed."  He did not have the seed of righteousness in him as Able and as Seth...yeah!  Quite the rabbit hole to go down.  So moving on to Noah after deep thought of beginnings.   I read this a few nights ago and it was such a blessing to me and helped my mind ...

Worshipful Obedience

Image
"They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen." -Romans 1:25 From the moment sin entered the world, man has been against God, but all along God has been for us. In the beginning when God created man and woman it was for the purpose of glorifying Himself, showing His love, and Himself, and to be worshiped. We were made to worship, however, the question is who or what do we worship? Everybody alive on this planet is bowing down and serving something or someone whether it is an artifact, idea, spirit, person, or God through Jesus. Whatever we follow we become like it as it shapes who we are. Worship is living our life individually and corporately as continuous living sacrifices to the glory of a person or thing. This is spoken clearly by Paul in Romans 12:1, this also happens to be apart of my life verse, "And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plea...

Addiction Ministry

Image
"A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. 25 Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. 26 Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants." -2 Timothy 2:24-26 Every Tuesday night I serve in my churches Addiction Ministry. Many people get squimmish and shocked when I mention the word addiction and ministry all in one sentence. I can only imagine what mental image they have in their mind. Some people joke, and say things like, are you going to see the addicted people tonight? Some other people question why I serve in this particular ministry, what do I have in common with these people? God has taught me a lot through this ministry, and even more He has lead me to some wonderful friends. He is growing me in this ministry. Go...

None But Jesus

Image
Today I was in the grocery store with my mom and the song by The Rolling Stones, "You Can't Always Get What You Want" came on the radio. Prior to walking into the store this lady took my parking place and gave me the finger. I was not happy, it was hard for me to scream Jesus loves you at that moment. My Aunt is always encouraging me to find my inner peace with Jesus. Anyway. Today's generation carries around the philosophy that they can get anything and everything they want. Whether by help of government, stealing...whatever. But as I listened to this song I was reminded of the doctrine of Idolatry. You see many times we pray and ask and want for our idols, things that we Worship more than we Worship God. We get frustrated with God when He doesn't give this particular thing to us; He says NO. God answered your prayer in saying no, it isn't unanswered. He is saying no because He knows it is our idol, even when we don't know it yet or realize it....

Object of My Affection

"If Jesus was the only object of your affection you would be entirely concerned with Him alone." -Fenelon When you really think about this quote it convicts you. What is the object of your affection? Who is the object of your affection? So many times we so easily come to fault with making the wrong things the object of our affection, in church especially. We end up committing Idolatry . The Websters dictionary defines Idolatry as this: Definition of IDOLATRY 1 : the worship of a physical object as a god 2 : immoderate attachment or devotion to something Pastors can even do this. We have to be really careful who and what becomes the object of our affection at church. It's easy for pastors to make ministry the object of their affection. Church members can easily begin to worship a pastor more than they worship God. In truth, every sin is an idol problem. We don't realize that we make other things the object of our affection, that's the scary part. We ...
