Chronological Thematic Bible Reading - Noah and the Flood

Image
"For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.  For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man."  Matthew 24:37-39 I tried to write on Cain, Able and Seth, but I have more questions than I do answers.  I also ended up doing a study on the biblical theological idea of "carpology," the study of seeds.  Genesis (and the whole Bible) is full of references of seeds.  Very interesting study.  A main thing I gathered regarding Cain is that he was a "bad seed."  He did not have the seed of righteousness in him as Able and as Seth...yeah!  Quite the rabbit hole to go down.  So moving on to Noah after deep thought of beginnings.   I read this a few nights ago and it was such a blessing to me and helped my mind ...

If my People

Image
"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. 16 I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there." -2 Chronicles 7:14-16 I'm participating in John Hagee's call to 40 days of prayer, fasting, and repentance for our nation. It started today, and I committed to pray, and fast soda, including my beloved sundrop, Facebook, and bread. This verse has become quite a popular verse here in the recent years, it was popular when 9/11 happened I remember. How have we as disciples of Christ done in following this verse? Many of us have sat back silently, never once standing up for Jesus for the desire to be politically correct instead of Biblically correc...

KA-BOOOOMMMMMMMM!!

Image
"IN THE beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth. By faith we understand that the worlds [during the successive ages] were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible." -Genesis 1:1, Hebrews 11:3 Amplified Bible Today I went to Wal-Mart of the glow in the dark stars that you can put in your room and at night when you turn the lights out, the stars will glow. Since I was a little girl, I have loved these glow in the dark stars. After finding them, they were a little more than I thought they would be. Other than that, I turned the package over to read this.... "THE BIG BAG THEORY" Millions of billions of years. There is so much wrong with that. So we'll just start with the star factor. Can I tell you something really easy to understand? The Big Bang didn't happen, just like when I open this pac...

Grace

"You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out He hates all of the same people you do." -Anne Lamott God has been teaching me a lot about grace especially in the past week reading through the Bible in 90 days again. Many times in my life I feel like when another "Christian" if that is really what they are treats me so bad I wish God's wrath on them, but they too remain his Children covered by his grace and mercy and blood. I guess that's why he commands that we love and pray for those who hurt us because we are just as guilty as the people who offend us. I read things in the Bible and I don't understand how God can be "okay" with what just happened, such as Jacob stealing Esau's birthright and blessing. Esau got mad! He wanted to kill Jacob. But aren't we all Esau? We don't understand how God can still love that person because we sure don't at the moment. But that isn't God's c...

Prison Ministry

This whole weekend I have been in Columbia, SC on the mission field in prisons. Satan wants you to think that it's going to be scary and something bad might happen, but can I tell you, the only thing bad happening when Satan is telling you that, is Satan! Satan will kill you quicker than the mafia. At first I was excited, but I was also apprehensive because I was kind of by myself. My adopted dad was going to be there, but he wasn't in any of my groups, and I just wasn't sure. He (adopted dad) has been on me about this for at least a year now, and praise God I finally was able to go, and I'm addicted to it. I must also add and tell you what a special person my adopted dad is, especially in the basis of this ministry. He and his wife adopted me into their family last summer, and I was cool with that, and I do love them both. Pretty soon he had me plugged into our churches Addiction Ministry which he also serves in. As I have been going to these meetings I have l...

New Life Event with Safer Communities- Midlands

Image
We arrived in Columbia, SC about 3:00, and we checked into our hotel. My room consists of a king sized bed, and a flat screen TV! That is luxury! It is my prayer that this weekend will be a weekend of spiritual growth. Last night the service I was in is called Midlands which is a Juvenile Detention Center for boys ages 11-17. I had been to the Midlands before with Student Worship from FBCIT, and had experienced all that goes on there. However, tonight was different, in that in was more one on one with the boys, and more in the real side of things. I was not with a bunch of students trying to get them in order and participating, and all being a leader there involves, don't get me wrong though, I love all of those kids, and I am grateful for every opportunity I have to be a leader among them, and a friend. On this trip I am what they call a prayer warrior. I'm always praying, I pray over where we are going, I prayed over chairs last night that these boys would be sittin...

The Tree of Life in The Garden of Eden

So as of Monday, I am reading through the Bible in 90 days again. I think I will make this a yearly thing. Monday evening as I started reading in Genesis, I picked up on things that I had somewhat missed in all my years of reading the Bible. As many people have stressed in my life, you are never done learning about the Bible, and God and His divineness, and supernaturalness. Hebrews tells us that the Word is alive and active! That in meaning there is always something to learn. So here is what I learned Monday night through my tired eyes. There were 2 trees placed in the center of the Garden of Eden. One was called, The Tree of Life, and the other, The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. You see, when Satan tempted Eve, he asked, "Can you eat from all these trees?" Eve replied, we can eat from them all but the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. God didn't exclude the tree of Life. Only after Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil did God...

Jesus is Comfort

Image
"All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort." 2 Corinthians 1:3 Yesterday I drove my grandma a nursing home in Monroe to see her friend from church that had recently gone into the nursing home. It's a real joy to be in the presence of older people and hear them talk about the Lord. For so many years I was under the impression that all old people knew Jesus and were saved. But that is not the case, my eyes were opened to this truth when I was on a mission trip to Detroit, MI in 2008. We did a concert at a nursing home and several people accepted Jesus as their Savior that day. It blew my mind! Yesterday as my grandma and I were sitting in her friends room, her friend said "I love Jesus so much, but I just wish I could see so I could read my Bible. I can't see, I love God's Word." So my grandma volunteered me to read some scripture. So I did. Of course this ladies Bible w...

Wherever You Go

Image
"Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go ." -Joshua 1:9 10 years ago or so, my youth leader Mrs. Patsy Surles gave me this little pillow hanger. Mrs. Patsy had a huge impact on my life in the developing years of my life. This verse has meant a lot in my life, this pillow has hung on my door in all the different places we have lived reminding me that "the Lord is with me wherever I go." In the context of this verse we read that Joshua's new job consisted of leading more than 2 million people into a strange new land and conquering it! Without God new things can be frightening. God assured Joshua He would be with him, so He is with us when we face new challenges. It's been challenging for me personally to move as much as we have. I've been uprooted and taken away from my friends and job and home, but through it all God has always been with...

I Will Pour Out My Spirit

Image
"‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams." Acts 2:17 Church, my brotha's and my sista's, I believe we are living in the last days. My sister and I talk about it often. We don't know the day or the hour, but God does; and Jesus is so ready to come get His children and I can't help but imagine Jesus sitting on the edge of His throne just waiting for God to tell Him, "Go get 'em! Bring them home!" What I'm about to lay out here is very true...no I won't be predicting dates...but I can tell you what the verse about tells us in Acts is very true. Prophesy will happen, visions will be seen, and dreams will be dreamed. I want to talk about the Holy Spirit in this post, as apart of our "The Power of the Church" series. I believe His Spirit is in face being poured out on all, and I particula...

Pride

"Through pride the devil became the devil. Pride leads to every vice, it's the complete anti-God state of mind." -C.S. Lewis One of things I love about Spring and Summer other than pollen and sneezing every 3 seconds is being able outside after being in hibernation for the winter. I enjoy getting up and going out on the deck and listen to creation wake up and "talk" to each other. I'll take my Bible with me and whatever book I'm reading and sit and meditate on things. For a while now I've known I wanted to write on pride but have been waiting for God to reveal what about pride to write. I started to really think about it in Theatre Appreciation class (what else is new right? I told you that class changed my life). We watched "Oedipus", and my professor kinda lectured that Oedipus' major character flaw was pride. Then I got to thinking, pride sneaks up on us sometimes and we don't even know it's pride that is affecting...

The Motions

Image
Casting Crowns - Set Me Free .mp3 Found at bee mp3 search engine I heard a table full of guys at school talking today. I was listening in, of course. They were talking about how they felt like they went through the motions at church anymore, like how they couldn't get excited about God anymore, and how it didn't have any meaning for them anymore. It broke my heart, one, because I could identify with them, and two, because already at a young age God was becoming uninteresting to them. So being the deep thinker I am, I got to thinking why we go through the motions of church? Does it really get that boring? Are we really that unattached? Then I thought the awesome sermon my pastor preached yesterday, it wasn't anything I had never studied for myself, but it's good to be reminded what a good worship service is like. We were in what I call "the joyful book" Nehemiah 8. Here is what my pastor highlighted based on this chapter....yes you need to go read i...

Don't Be Deceived

"Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise." -1 Corinthians 3:18 You'll need a Bible handy in reading this post, I hope you always have your Bible close at hand as I post scripture and give my take on things. Don't take my word on it, look it up for yourself. The Christian life seems to get harder and harder to live as the days increase. I know so many people today who are being deceived by, not only Satan, but by themselves. It's Spiritual Warfare! In the case of addiction, we call it Spiritual Bewitchment. The word deceive is a verb, it's an action, it means to be led astray; to cause to accept as true what is false. If we are really saved by the grace of our Father, then through that Salvation we have been set free from the deception of Satan. God has removed those spiritual blinders from our eyes and has revealed the truth to us. John 8:32 "You shall know the tru...

To the Ends of the Earth for Jesus

Image
United - To the Ends of the Earth .mp3 Found at bee mp3 search engine I receive my Voice of the Martyrs newsletter I look forward to getting every month. My faith is always encouraged and stretched as I read how God is moving overseas, and informed on how I can help. In this particular newsletter the words: "How far would you go to deliver a Bible?" As I have been thinking about missionary work lately this question became even more relevant. So I read the information and article and was convicted that I must participate in this project and tell all my friends about it. Colombia Parachute Packs are available for purchase through Voice of the Martyrs. A pack of 10 is $10.00, and a pack of $30 is $25.00. Each pack contains supplies and instructions for making the parachutes that will be used to drop Bibles, radios, and Christian literature into the jungles of Colombia. We would also have to send an additional $5.00 back to cover cost getting it to Colombia. This coun...

College and Jesus

One of the things about college is you have so many expectations to meet. Where your college books become like your Bible, and your papers become like the prayers you should be praying, and homework in general becomes like a religion. It's very hard to keep Jesus in the equation. You vow to get up early and read your Bible and pray, but you've stayed up till 3 or 4 in the morning and need sleep before it's time to leave for your classes. It's very easy to become consumed with it all. You don't have time to participate in church activities as much, or hang with your friends as much...your life becomes school work. I don't have a solution for this. I struggle just as much to stay hid in His Word and Satan knows it and attacks start coming right after another building up on the already stress that exists from school work, and nagging parents, and things you know you need to do....then we blow up. Sometimes at the wrong person. But I know the Word holds eve...

The Sheep Song!

"Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand." -Psalm 95:6-7 The past few Sunday nights at my church, First Baptist Church Indian Trail, Ron Lynch has been preaching on the 23rd Psalm. You know that Psalm we read at funerals all the time. There is so much more depth to this passage than I have ever seen in Studying it. I wasn't thinking about it simply enough. The 23rd Psalm is exactly how it reads, it is the relationship between and Shepherd and His sheep. We are the sheep!! I love being a Jesus sheep! If you research how shepherd took care of their sheep back in the Bible day you will see that's how Jesus is to us. He takes care of us, he guides us, he heals us. It's such a beautiful picture portrayed, and it touches my heart to know my Savior loves me that deeply. I tend to just base his love for me as He died for me. But His love...

The No Fear Project

Image

Each card with a scripture verse and prayer. I am currently selling them at $7.50 each. If you would like to order one please contact me: Allison Baker 704-488-5963 guitarplayer4jesus89@yahoo.com THE STORY: In November of 2010 God gave me this project. Inspired by a phrase I heard in a sermon that "Do Not Fear" is written in the Bible 365 times, on for every day got me thinking how can I convey people that we are not to fear? One of my gifts is encouragement. It says in Romans 12:8 "If your gift is encouragement, then do it!" So I set out on a mission to find where all Jesus says "Do Not Fear" and where God says "Do Not Fear." It was just as encouraging to me to do this project. It was at a time in my life when I needed those words spoken into my life. We all need these w...
