It is Written!
"But He replied, 'It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.'"
Matthew 4:4
When Jesus is tempted by Satan, He says to Satan 3 different times, "It is written" or "The Scriptures say." But you'll also notice that Satan says, "For it is also written." Implying that Satan knows scripture.
Many times in my life Satan sneaks into my thoughts and shouts lies about me, and I'm stupid enough to believe Him. We need to be like Jesus and know the word, and be able to throw scripture right back at Satan. When Satan tells me, "No one loves you" I need to be able to shoot back at him, no one loves you either! HAHA! Seriously though, John 3:16, God loved me and the world to send his only son to die for me. When Satan tells me, "You messed yesterday up so bad there is no need to get out of bed!" I need to be able to shoot back "The faithful love of my Savior never ends, His mercies and faithfulness is new every morning." Get the picture?
We need to be radical for Christ. There is book out there called "Rules for Radicals" it was written by a not so good man...a very radical in the wrong way sort of person. However, if we can take what he has written and turn it around for good, like Christian good it might be a good read. When we are radical for Christ we can shake the foundations of the earth.
Paul says in Ephesians 6 that we are to guard ourselves with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Before we can start defending ourselves though, we have to believe in what is guarding us...the Bible. We need to believe that it contains truths about us. You want to know the truth about the Bible? Well here it is:
The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of Salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. It's doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, it's histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.
It is the traveler's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldiers sword, the Christians character. Here Paradise is restored, Heaven opened, and the gates of Hell disclosed.
Christ is the grand subject, our good the design, and the glory of God its end.
It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. It is given to you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.
We cannot live just on plain food, yeah it helps us physically, but our spiritual souls need to be fed, our minds need to be fed the truth; the Word of God.
If we are going to impact a world for Jesus, we need to get it straight in our own lives, me included. We have to stop listening to the lies Satan feeds us, thats why they are called lies! We have to start believing and be fully prepared to allow God to daily grip us in His power and do a mighty work in us that is truly worthy of Himself! That's how great our God is!
