The Temple of God

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? -1 Corinthians 3:16
If we realized we are a the temple what decisions would we make differently? The Spirit of God gives us power to do His work and achieve greatness, He can empower us to do what is right for the temple.

"And don’t you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? For the Scriptures say, “The two are united into one.” But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body." 1 Corinthians 6:16-20
God gave us our bodies so that He could dwell in us as His temple. Who am I to say that it's okay to let garbage into the temple and destroy spiritually the dwelling place of the King?

God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor— not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. Never harm or cheat a Christian brother in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7
Paul repeats a few times that God desires us to be holy. In this passage we are challenged to be sexually holy. Though sex is not wrong, it is abused and demeaned by society. Which is why we have to be planted into God's standards, because they never change. He makes everything we do holy if we do it unto Him and in His name. Sexual sin would include sex out of wedlock, homosexuality, lust for someone else's spouse, having an affair. It is emphasized again that we are given the Holy Spirit who will empower us to live holy lives before Him, and who can cleanse us from all impurities. If He is the solid center foundation in our relationships both sexually and non sexually they will last and be joyful and holy.

This week I challenge you to read about the temple in the Old Testament, we are to be as holy as it is described. Remind yourself daily that the very King and Creator lives in you. Prepare yourself for Him daily. We have to clean house consistently.
