Salvation Comes by Hearing

"Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates."
Deuteronomy 6

The past few months I've been pondering on the Hebrew word, "SHEMA". I stumbled upon this word while reading in the Old Testament book of Micah, and in the fifth chapter. There tucked away in the almost crevice of my Bible was the word, "heard." But it's meaning in the center of my Bible stated that hearing means obeying. Hearing is directly related to our obedience! Did you know there is no Hebrew word for obey? Hear, heed, understand, obey are all wrapped in Shema. God wants us to have hearing hearts. During His ministry, Jesus referenced ears and hearing a lot! Hearing comes with the need of a response which cultivates a heart of obedience. Obedience widens our understanding. Seem a little backwards? Doesn't it seem that if we could just understand first what God wants, then we will be more prone to obey? This can be a long process sometimes.
And such is the preaching of the Good News! Will you...hear the proclaiming of Jesus calling you? Will you? Hear Jesus. Not so much a person in front of you talking, but will you take heed of God Himself pulling you? Will you hear truth, respond to Truth, and DO Truth?

In all actuality, SHEMA Levot is a daily prayer. A command to show love for God, and as we do it will lead us in obedience to Him.

> Love God with our actions
> Keep our thoughts focused on Him
> Love God with our whole person (body)
> Love Him with everything we have
