Is Sin Calling? Decline Call!


We all struggle with the wrong people and crowd calling our number, as Proverbs instructs it would be wise to decline before our lives go into a downfall!  Getting what we want leads to destruction in the end.  As I am in Proverbs currently with my Bible reading in the year, the verses below jumped out at me and I had to dig in deeper.  I admit I'm easily enticed in many different situations so I needed this!  I am delighted that God speaks and teaches me.  That he rebuked my enticement with the World and leads me to repentance.

 Proverbs 1:10

My son (and daughter), if sinful men (or women) entice you, do not give in to them."

FOR IT IS WRITTEN:

Just as Joseph stood firm and did not give in to Potiphers wife but ran even leaving his coat in her hand having exclaimed, "How can I do such a wicked thing and sin against God!?" (Genesis 39)

IT IS ALSO WRITTEN IN THE LAW GIVEN TO MOSES:

If anyone entices you to worship other gods (idols), anything before and lifted higher than God, do not give in or listen to them!  Show them no pity!  Do not shield them. (Deuteronomy 13)

PAUL THROUGH THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WROTE TO THE CHURCH CONCERNING SINFUL DEEDS THAT ENTICE:

"Have nothing to do with fruitless deeds of darkness, but expose them to the light!  Recognize the sin (wake up), Repent at the Word of the Lord (rise from the dead), be Renewed with the light of Christ." (Ephesians 5:11-14)

Application
  • Find out what pleases the Lord and do it.
  • My Master has withheld nothing from me, He has given me everything!  He will be with me in all circumstances giving me kindness and favor.  No matter what the consequences, Good or Bad, they are in the Lord's merciful hand.
  • "The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love Him with all your heart and soul.  It is the Lord your God you must follow, and Him you must revere.  Keep his commands and obey Him; serve Him and hold fast to Him.  Stay in His ways, purging evil from among you." (Deuteronomy 13:3-5)
Proverbs 1:15
"My son (and daughter), do not go along with them [ those who walk in sin ], do not set food on their paths..."

FOR THE WORD PROCLAIMS!

"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked, or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers..." (Psalm 1:1)

Application
  • I will "keep my feet from every evil path so I might obey your word." (Psalm 119:101)
  • I will "delight in the Lord and his law reading and meditating on it day and night. (Psalm 1:2)
Prayer:
Lord my God, I embrace this wisdom unto myself.  Help me to heed your warnings, to decline the invitation of sinful paths and ways.  Through your Spirit in me, and in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Hupomone -- A Patient Endurance

I can remember the first time I heard this Greek word, Hupomone (noun). (pronounced hoop-om-on-ay') It literally means remaining under the Divine Presence while being tested. I was sitting in the church my dad was pastoring at the time, a rural church in North Carolina. It's been well over 10 years ago. I was sitting on a pew with my friend Sarah, kinda toward the front. In it Jesus echos many Psalms, and Hebrew text. We know that to understand scripture it usually is tied and referenced with another scripture. The Daily Surrender

Psalm 143:6 (New American Standard Bible) "I stretch out my hands to You; My soul longs for You, as a parched land. Selah." Before I start with my thought process in this entry, I want to make sure that we are on the same page about "Selah" which was mentioned in the verse above. Selah, is a Hebrew word used mostly in the Psalms. It is an instruction to the reader or singer, (Psalms are songs) to stop and listen, it notes a break in the song like maybe to say "Amen" in stressing the importance of the preceding passage. Selah is also rendered as "Interlude" in some translations. Surrender, is a verb (it's what you do), it means to yield to the power, control, or possession of another upon compulsion or demand.
