My Help -- To God Be The Glory -- Surviving a Wreck

Image
Photo by Allison Baker in Great Smoky Mountains 06/2021 It was Monday morning coming off a great fun uplifting weekend.  I had seen the new Space Jam movie, went to a Knights ball game, went to church Sunday morning and made a quick trip to the beach for a boat ride out on the Intercoastal and Atlantic Ocean looking for dolphins.  Best weekend!   Mondays I make a conscious effort to have a good attitude, I don't go with the flow of "Ugh!  Monday!"  I remember my Jesus Mama saying years and years ago, "Rainy days and Mondays don't get me down when I get to praise Him all day!"  And that still rolls in my head, she's a good voice in my head.   I start out to work uptown on the 74 commute, sometimes I will take the Charlottetown exit, sometimes I will take the John Belk, or the Brookshire, there's lots of ways to get to work.       Traffic has returned to normal since the pandemic.  So there was usual rush hour tr...

Naming Our Challenges in Lyrics

Image
Those who know me personally know that I have been writing music since the age of twelve.  Music has been a HUGE part of my life.  To date I have written close to 100 songs, maybe not a lot to boast in for a 20 year span, but nonetheless these are lyrics that tell a story.  It is even okay with me if no one else likes my music and lyrics their purpose served to bring me close to God and know His heart for me, and me express myself.   My songwriting skills have gotten better overtime, and recently I have joined in with The Getty's Hymn Writers Collective in learning to be a better songwriter.  Through their Sing! Global ministry I have been able to take part in being mentored and have access to content that I couldn't have even dreamed of even a few years ago.  I've been so grateful for the fresh drink this has been in my song writing "career" to be challenged, and given ideas to think on and develop.   Maybe we can all agree that there...

Spiritual Disciplines:The Way of Waiting

Image
"I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors." - Psalm 130:5-6; Proverbs 8:34 Waiting is something we don't do well anymore as a society. Even waiting in the drive-thru is too much for us! Waiting in traffic, waiting for someone, waiting to hear if you were accepted into a school or society. Life is full of waiting. Waiting for the promotion, waiting for the BIG trip, waiting to move, these are just some of the things I have had to wait for lately. It makes us anxious, and the unknown is full of questions. Will I like where I'm going? What if? Am I really going to be able to pay my bills? Things aren't all flowers, rainbows, and unicorns at work with that promotion, now what? Do we run to the next thing? Do we stay where we are for...

Kingdom Lifestyles: The Way of Singing

Image
"Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing." And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying, "To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever. And they sang the song of Moses , the bond-servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, "Great and marvelous are Your works, O Lord God, the Almighty; Righteous and true are Your ways, King of the nations! "Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy; For ALL THE NATIONS WILL COME AND WORSHIP BEFORE YOU, FOR YOUR RIGHTEOUS ACTS HAVE BEEN REVEALED."...
