Fulfilled: Our Mission From God

"Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me" (Psalm 40:7).
"The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Revelation 19:10).
"...all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me" (Jesus Christ, Luke 24:44)."

The other night I read the entire book of Matthew. Do you ever get that deep urging to pick up your Bible and read? That's what I was experiencing the other night. As I began to read it, I noticed one word "fulfill." Jesus had a mission in this earth, He was sent by His Father, God to carry out the mission planned before the foundation of the Earth was even laid. His mission was to redeem fallen man to the state before the fall (Romans 5). Not only did He fulfill this, he fulfilled details of His life that the prophets such as Isaiah and Jeremiah were given by God to write. Just as God had a mission for Jesus, He has a mission for us as His children to fulfill. Our stories have been written, and everyday we are fulfilling the plans God wants us to. Unfortunately, many do not know that their lives are full of purpose and mission. I was one of those people not long ago. As a result people chase after the wrong kind of fulfillment, and philosophies that lead to self. Self is the worst thing to look too, you in yourself did not create you, you do not hold the plans, you do not hold tomorrow, you cannot give yourself purpose. It ends in misery.
Using Jesus as an example in fulfilling God's mission and purposes for our lives there are 6 principles to recognize:
1. God has equipped you for your mission.
I assure you, if you go through the book of Romans especially you will notice the word "given" and "receive" a lot! Are you appropriating what God as given you already before you ask Him to give you more? To stay equipped, stay in the Word.
2. You mission must fulfill God's purposes in the world.
What did Jesus spend His time doing in His 33 years here on Earth? He evangelized. He told people about His Father in Heaven. He cared for the least of these, the widows, the elderly. He discipled. Are you doing these 3 things? What are some ministries you know of that you could get plugged in and start doing these things? Maybe there is a ministry burning in your heart that God wants you to give birth to.
3. God won't waste a thing in your mission.
It doesn't matter if you are divorced, if you use to be suicidal, if you can't spell, if you are quiet, if you are loud, if you use to have a bad mouth, the Lord knows, He is aware of all you have faced in life. He uses everything about our individual lives to bring Him glory and fulfilling his purposes in our unique missions.
4. Your mission is part of God's mosaic.
You are a tiny part of a big picture. Whatever God has gifted you with another piece of mosaic next to you may not be able to do that. It's like the body analogy.
5. Don't just sit in the driveway.
Get filled and go so you can fulfill.
6. There are "trade-offs" that DO NOT accomplish God's mission before you.
Sacrificing joy for happiness. Joy is lasting, happiness is not. There is a difference.
Sacrificing relationship with God for our way. When we do things our way we stray away.
Trade eternal rewards for temporary amusement.

Remember His ways are opposite of the World's ways:
The world says, “Be the top dog! The one who is worshiped wins.”
But God’s Word says, “If you want to be great in my kingdom, you have
to be a servant of all” (Mark 9:35).

The world says, “Repay those who hurt you.”
God’s Word says, “Do not repay evil for evil” (Romans 12:17).

The world says, “Look out for number one.”
God’s Word says, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

The world says, “Get all you can and keep everything for yourself.”
God’s Word says, “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away
from the one who wants to borrow from you” (Matthew 5:42).

The world says, “Make friends with influential people for self promotion.”
God’s Word says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit,
but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you
should not only look to your own interests, but also to the interests of
others” (Philippians 2:3-4).

The world says, “The one who dies with the most toys wins.”
God’s Word says, “Watch out! Be on guard against all kinds of greed; a
man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15).

The world says, “It’s all about me.”
God’s Word says, “It’s all about Me.”

It all goes back to Romans 12:1-2. We don't conform, renew your mind. I find it interesting, as we look at verse 1 that the only vocabulary Paul can use to capture the essence of Christianity is the language of sacrifice and transformation. Paul begins with characteristic passion.
The first word, "Therefore" wow! That is a word with a lot of power behind it. Therefore is an adverb, meaning it often tells when, where, why, or under what conditions something happens or happened. In our case Paul uses this word on the basis of everything he had previously revealed in his letter to the Romans, not just in what we call chapter 11, but from the very beginning when Paul defined himself as a slave of Jesus. In other words Paul is saying, "On the basis of all you have learned about God, here is how you should live for God." So what up to this point have we learned about Jesus? What are the mercies He has given us? God has given us everything. That is why Paul does not begin this chapter on the subject of Christian behavior by saying, "Now there’s one more thing you need to receive from God."
The Ultimate fulfillment is Heaven, and what we do here on Earth affects what we receive in Heaven.
