The God who Seeks: A Scandal of Grace

God is the initiator of everything in our lives. We are people chosen by God Himself as a result of Him seeking us out. Before the foundations of the Earth were laid and formed God saw you, and loved you and had it in His heart for you to be His. In someway everyday He is in pursuit of you, His eyes on you hoping you will choose Him and in turn seek Him. He says through David in Psalm 23, "surely my goodness and steadfast love will pursue after you relentlessly all the days of your life." Until our last day He will hound our steps with love. No one ever dies unloved. He is seeking to save, and in that saving that people will become true worshipers. He pursues us through His Spirit, and through His Son.

The Trinity is a mystery. I believe it was St. Augustine that said, If you try to communicate and explain the Trinity you loose your mind. I get scared writing about it because I don't want to accidentally sound like a heretic and totally shred theology to pieces and the doctrine I believe in. The Trinity is not 3 different Gods, but 1 equal being. Just as we are made up body, mind, and soul in one. The Trinity is always self exalting. We know the Father through the Spirit, by Jesus. We know Jesus, by God the Father through the Spirit. We know the Spirit, through Jesus, by God the Father.

By His grace we know Him, by His grace He loves us. Grace is a generous love. It is wrapped in the truth of John 3:16 God loved the world that He sent His Son Jesus, that whoever would believe Him would never die but live forever. God loved, but there was sin in the world that was separating us from Him. So He turned to His Son. Jesus became a man, He was never human, and in that one act He brought human sinfulness back into obedience. He doesn't want to just save you, or just be involved, He wants a relationship with you. Sit down and have a cup of coffee, tell Him whats on your mind and heart. What made you mad today? What made you smile? He cares and seeks to have that kind of relationship with you. Do you find you live a little different when you know you are loved? You have a little bounce in your step. You have a huge smile on your face. You're a little more generous to people. You're walking tall. Grace gives the power to live differently; it's a generous love.

When we are finally able to grasp the truth, and God puts His hand on us and we know it, our hearts become full with wonder and amazement. When it finally clicks that it's been God all along giving the nudges of encouragement, the one who has been there in "close calls" when we feel we are alone, He was always the one knocking on the door of our hearts. And we step out in faith, opening the door and letting God sit with us, and all we can say is, wow.

It does not matter who you are, where you are, or how old you are. This is the Invitation, Application, and Benediction all in one:
I was reading in 1 Chronicles 28-29 this morning, listen to the Words of the Lord to King David of his chosen son, Solomon.
"...be careful to seek out all the commandments of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land, and leave it as an inheritance for your children after you forever (GENERATIONS- FOR THE SAKE OF OUR CITIES AND OUR NATIONS!).
As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever. Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong, and do it. Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God—my God—will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord. King David said to all the assembly: “My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced; and the work is great, because the temple is not for man but for the Lord God. O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the intent of the thoughts of the heart of Your people, and fix their heart toward You. And give my son Solomon a loyal heart to keep Your commandments and Your testimonies and Your statutes, to do all these things, and to build the temple for which I have made provision.”

Solomon was 12 years old when anointed King over Israel, and asked to build a Temple for God to dwell. As the God who sought Solomon, and chose him, Solomon sought after God himself and realized he had no clue what he was doing and asked God for wisdom. God knew this, and that out of Solomon, he would become a man that would seek after Him in true worship, as well as find Salvation in knowing that there is nothing new under the sun, but that the lasting glory is found only in God.

Isaiah the prophet is still shouting: "Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near." (55:6)
