The Feast of Trumpets

"Blow the trumpet in Zion,
And sound an alarm in My holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble;
For the day of the Lord is coming,
For it is at hand...
The great day of the Lord is near;
It is near and hastens quickly.
The noise of the day of the Lord is bitter;
There the mighty men shall cry out.
15 That day is a day of wrath,
A day of trouble and distress,
A day of devastation and desolation,
A day of darkness and gloominess,
A day of clouds and thick darkness,
16 A day of trumpet and alarm
Against the fortified cities
And against the high towers."

Today at sundown the Feast of Trumpets commenced, and what a beautiful day for this to have happened on The Lords Day! Though this is a Jewish Holiday and their Sabbath is on Saturday, the idea of this Feast to be on the Lords day for those of us who are Born Again Believers, it is special. More so today in my church we observed the Lord's Supper, a remembrance of His covenant with His Bride, The Church.

This years Feast of Trumpets was ushered in by a black moon on Friday night, a rare occurrence only happening every 32 months! Among the several things surrounding this Feast it represents the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Trumpets were blown in the Bible to alarm or call to arms, to proclaim or announce. It is a trumpet blast that will call for the Rapture of the Church (1 Thessalonians 4:16). Remember Jesus gave us a heads up in His Word through His disciples writing it that there would be signs in the sky that would indicate His coming. Matthew 23 and Luke 21 Jesus teaches clearly what to look for in the end. Even more so we look for His Coming in these "High Holy Days".
29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

The Feast of Trumpets looks to these things! He's Coming! Look for Him! It is also a reminder of the first time they heard the sound of the Trumpet.
"Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain[a] quaked greatly. 19 And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice. 20 Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up."

The people feared God's presence, and for good reason, He is a God of justice! He is Almighty! He is untouchable! Can you imagine the power surrounding that mountain with the trumpets blowing, Moses shouting, and God answering!? When we get a glimpse of who God really is, we are shamed for who we are and that we would even come to the foot of His mountain. It is an awe of God, and this is also what this Feast begins. From now until Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement, there are 10 days of repentance and consecration before God. Traditionally, the story of Abraham and Issac is read as a reminder of the sacrifice God provides to us through His Son Jesus, just as He provided a ram in the place of Issac! A perfect shadowing to the forever sacrifice God gave in His son Jesus who is the new covenant.

Before reading the Word of God, the shofar is blasted: A long single blast, the sound of the King's coronation; three short wail like blasts, signifying repentance; nine staccato blasts of alarm to awaken the soul, and a great long blast!
I PRAISE GOD WHO IS KING AND RULER OVER ALL, WHO COMMANDED US TO HEAR THE SOUND OF THE SHOFAR!

His coming is sure. His coming is near. The only question is are you prepared to meet Him when the trumpet sounds?
Pour out your heart to God, repent, seek to be holy.
