There Is Nothing That God Cannot Do

Our God is merciful and tender.  He will cause the bright dawn of salvation to rise on us and to shine from Heaven on all those who live in the dark shadow of death, to guide our steps into the path of peace.

-Luke 1:78-79

Tis the season to be jolly!  Yes!  Even in 2020!  I've been reading the book of Luke along with a friend who is in jail right now. He told me he didn't even know where to begin reading the Bible and I told him to start in Luke.  He messaged me delighted to find out it was the Christmas story that begins it all.  Surprise!  Luke begins by saying he had studied all these matters that happened from their beginning, he understood it, and wanted to give a detailed approach to clear up any misunderstandings that may have been floating around.  He wanted there to be a truth in full report of things that occurred, not pieces of information here and there, but the whole full truth.

In the first part of the scripture we hear of a couple that is old, and an angel appears to this priest whose name is Zechariah.  The angel says, "Your wife is going to be pregnant soon and have a son."  Zechariah responded with, "How will that happen!?  We are so old!"  Does this sound familiar to any of you who know the Bible?  Say, something like that happened in the Old Testament?  Abraham?  Here's the truth that stands out to me and the point or connection Luke wanted the reader to make, but that Zechariah should have made as a priest. The God of Abraham is still the same God of that day, and this day, and the days to come.  He made Sarah pregnant, He can make Elizabeth pregnant.  Then God took it one more step, He made a virgin pregnant!  But Mary has a contrast of response in a way, while she questions the angel with her virginity, her ultimate response was, "I am the Lord's servant."  The angel rebuked Zechariah because he did not believe and he is priest, he knew the Holy Scriptures, had read the prophecy.  But Mary believed.  There is nothing God cannot do!  Our response of belief in that statement makes a difference, and our response should always be as Mary's, "I am the Lord's servant."

It's 2020, everybody is ready for the year to end.  How much worse can it get?  What is going on?  Why is this happening to us?  As we are reminded this Christmas season to focus on the coming of Christ, and we read our scripture, lets remember His works that led to it all, and in this time of struggle keep telling the Lord, "I am your servant."  Cling to the promise and the hope that there is a path of peace as Zechariah prophesied at the birth of his son John.  "Our God is merciful and tender.  He will cause the bright dawn of salvation to rise on us and to shine from Heaven on all those who live in the dark shadow of death, to guide our steps into the path of peace."  That salvation is Jesus, he broke the power of death, and walked the way of peace.  There is nothing he can't do.

"Is anything too hard for the LordAt the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.” Genesis 18:14
"Then Job answered the Lord and said: I know you can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You." Job 42:1
"‘Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You. “Behold, I AM the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?" -Jeremiah 32:17; 27
"But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”" -Matthew 19:26
